Claudette Opoku-Achampong is currently the President of the Ghanaian Canadian Association of Fort McMurray (GCAFM) and a dedicated member of the AGCA Working Group. As President, she works diligently with her team and stakeholders to promote the well-being of community members, and to promote multiculturalism within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) and beyond.
Her rich cultural background and natural vigor to serve communities, has led her to serve in various voluntary roles to date, including her current roles. Claudette volunteered in various capacities with the Council for the Advancement of African Canadians in Alberta (Africa Centre) in Edmonton, Alberta, from 2011 to 2012. She was a strong advocate for the Africa Centre and was instrumental in helping to organize the first Annual Fundraiser which successfully raised thousands of dollars towards Africa Centre programs. Claudette also helped organize and facilitate various “Conversation Cafes” on socio-economic issues affecting the African community in Edmonton.

In her professional capacity, Claudette currently serves as an Executive Officer/Certified Public Health Inspector. Her work involves the delivery of Environmental Public Health Programs, including safe food, drinking water and housing, recreational water safety, social care, and communicable disease control among other program areas. Prior to this role, she worked in the Biopharmaceutical Industry. Claudette holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) degree with specialization in Microbiology from the University Alberta, a Bachelor of Environmental Health After-Degree (BEH (AD)) from Concordia University of Edmonton, and a Certificate in Applied Project Management. She is currently pursuing a Master of Health Studies at Athabasca University, Alberta.
